The department is supported by a well-equipped laboratory featuring advanced instruments such as PCR, Gel Documentation System, Flame Photometer, Laminar Airflow Chamber, Electrophoresis Apparatus, Cooling Centrifuge, Deep Freezer, and UV Transilluminator, ensuring hands-on learning and quality research opportunities.

The Department of Biochemistry at Maruthupandiyar College, Thanjavur, was established in the academic year 1996–1997 with the vision of imparting the significance of Biosciences to aspiring learners. Offering UG, PG, and Ph.D. programs, the department is committed to providing quality education, especially to rural students from Thanjavur and surrounding districts.
