The Department of Physics at Maruthupandiyar College, Thanjavur, was established in 1998 with a vision to provide quality education and promote scientific research in the field of physical sciences. Creating a strong academic pathway for students from foundational learning to advanced research.

The department focuses on emerging areas such as Nanotechnology, Material Science, Electronics, Crystal Growth, Thin Films, Crystallography, and Non-Linear Dynamics.
